Bachelor Programs in Design Field


Students with science in plus two with a keen interest in designing and fashion may explore design-related programs that promise a prosperous career. Here is a list of such programs


Bachelor of Design in Fashion Designing


Bachelor of Design in Fashion Designing is a very prestigious four-year program offered by NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology). The course is very popular among candidates interested in designing clothes and apparels. Future career prospects are extremely good as fashion as an industry is now seeing a boom. A plethora of career choices and professions are available after graduating which include – designers, freelance design consultants, costume designers, illustrators etc. Graduates can also get hired by MNCs and companies in the clothing line and designer wear space.

Bachelor of Design in Leather Designing


This is also a four-year program with ample job opportunities after graduation. The program primarily, deals with designing of leather products, mass manufacturing of it, management of the good, transportation etc.


Bachelor of Design in Accessory Designing


Another four-year program dealing with designing niche and innovative designed and crafted accessories and ornaments. Other than ornaments, this space also includes making of products like footwear and interior design goods.


Bachelor of Design in Textile Designing


This four-year program is all about textile manufacturing, processing, designing and management. This continues to be one of the most well-known courses at NIFT. Graduates can explore opportunities in the industry associated with clothes and textile.


Bachelor of Design in Knitwear Designing


Many of us do not know that knitwear designing is fast establishing itself the next big thing in the design and textile space. This four-year program involves the fundamentals of knitting and also integrates know-how of the new age methods and equipment too!


Bachelor of Design in Fashion Communication


This program is still very new but is believed to be high on promise and potential. The course is about merchandising (visual), exhibiting design, fashion journalism etc. Graduates can look for job opportunities at media and designing houses as fashion consultants. They can also work as organizers of fashion events.


Animation film Designing


This is also a four-year program with a promising future prospect offered by the esteemed NID (National Institute of Design). Graduates can work as independent animators, or get hired by Indian and International media production houses or advertising agencies.

Ceramic and Glass Designing


Ceramic and Glass Designing is an age-old vocation of mankind. Today there is a four-year program in Ceramic and Glass Designing is available at NID which trains students in ancient techniques, as well as new age, advances methods.


Furniture and Interior Designing


This is also a four-year program and deals with diverse facets of designing, manufacturing, processing etc of wooden and other types of furniture and interior designing products.

Product Designing


This program is about designing valuable and handy products or innovating and improving the design of already existing ones. The four-year program requires an innovative approach to make things more constructive by improving its design.


Bachelor of interior design


Bachelor of Interior Design is a four-year undergrad program teaching the art and science of interior decoration of building/ residence. The admission process includes qualifying entrance tests held by colleges and performance in subsequent round of counselling. The program is sub-divided into 8 semesters and the course fee ranging between 300000 and 1200000 rupees.


Mostly private institutes offer this program both as diploma and certificate courses. Securing a seat in a premier institute like CEPT will be fruitful.


Fee for Bachelor of Interior Design varies from one college to another and private colleges charge relatively higher fees. On an average, the tuition fees could be anywhere between 60,000-20, 0000 rupees per year depending on type of college, its rating, scholarship status of the candidate etc.


Teaching and Education Programs


These courses are very popular and are mostly known as a teachers training course. B.Ed. happens to be the most sought after program, amongst this category of courses. However, it can only be pursued after graduation. But some teaching training courses can be taken up right after 12th. They are-


  • El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education, 4 years long course)
  • Diploma in Elementary Education
  • P.Ed. (Bachelor of Physical Education)
  • Primary Teachers Training course (can follow it up with B.Ed.)


Pharm D


Pharm D or Doctor of Pharmacy is a Doctoral Degree program and the duration is 6 years including five years of academic program along with a one-year long internship. Like B Pharmacy, Pharm D is also a course that students with both Mathematics and Biology can explore and enroll for.

Fees for Pharm D course is more than B.Pharm. A Pharm D program from a private college will cost rupees 75000-20,0000 per year. Securing seats in government colleges or availing a scholarship will considerably reduce the fees.


Management courses


Science students with Mathematics as a subject in class 12 can also pursue management studies after plus two. BBA continues to be the most popular choice among such students. Other undergraduate level management programs both degree and diploma include –


B.M.S. (Bachelor of Management Studies)

Integrated B.B.A. + M.B.A. program (5 years duration)

B.H.M. (Bachelor of Hotel Management)

Retail Management (Diploma)

B.B.E. (Bachelor of Business Economics)

B.B.S. (Bachelor of Business Studies)

B.I.B.F. (Bachelor of International Business and Finance)
