Top Arts and Humanities Courses after Class 12

Humanities courses have seen a lot of takers off late as now the scope and career opportunities in arts are many. An array of opportunities is in store for students who took humanities in plus two. Those having comprehensive knowledge in English, Political Science, Geography, History, and Economics can build a great career now. Arts is a very vast and intense field and students of this discipline can look for job opportunities in law, journalism, fashion, marketing, aviation and other professional courses.

 

We have prepared a list of undergrad programs available to students who are looking for enrollment in colleges this year:

 

English

 

BA in English honours is a very popular undergrad program today. Career opportunities for English Literature Students are prolific. There is a huge demand in teaching in private English medium schools across India, and in private universities, colleges and institutes. Ones with M.A in English and B.Ed have high employability. Publishing sector requires English literature students all the time, those with strong academic background, language skills and knowledge can excel in this field. English literature students gets lot of opportunity in theater, media and entertainment industry of India.

 

Opportunities are aplenty in Business and Corporate sector as well. The English literature student often loves to write. So, if you love to write and have passion, then you can build career in writing. English literature students are known for their creativity, communication skills, writing skills, imagination, logic and reasoning. Therefore, they are ideally suitable for variety of careers in advertising and public relations industry. The digital/online industry now has opportunities like content writing, content marketing, copy-writing, etc. One can also work as a freelancer, in fact many content writers now work as freelancers and earn handsomely. BPOs and KPOs, Social Service in NGOs and Civil Services also offer attractive career opportunities.

 

Humanities and Social Sciences

 

Bachelors of Humanities and Social Sciences (BA) is an undergraduate program of 3 years. Those with minimum 50% from an authorized board in the arts stream are eligible for this course. In this course, students get to investigate multiple aspects of society and social behaviours. Opportunitites lie in the development sector especially with NGOs.

 

Geography

 

Those who have passed 10+2 with social sciences including geography as one of the main subjects can take up a three year undergrad program in Geography. Candidates with a geography degree will have abundant opportunities including working in the war room of a royal navy vessel to working with an environment agency, running housing schemes, or working almost anywhere in the public sector.

 

With a masters degree and a Ph.D, one could also teach geography, do urban designs or town planning, or become a chartered surveyor.

 

Psychology

 

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology is another 3 years Undergraduate program for students from Arts background, which involves the study of the human mind and human behaviour. During the program students get to learn the basic theories and applications related to Psychology and Psycho-analysis.

BA Hons. In Education is a full-time undergrad program of 3 years duration. Students with minimum 50% of marks can apply for this course. Many colleges offer this program in India. Admission process includes assessment based on 10+2 marks, entrance exam marks, and performance in personal interview.

 

After completion of the course, Graduates may get opportunities in areas like Museums, Public relations and Journalism, Editing and Publishing houses, Educational departments, Creative/Technical writing, Home tuition, etc. and work in positions like Teacher, Advisor, Non-fiction writer, Technical writer, Novelist, Public relation journalist, etc. The average salary for these professionals ranges between INR 2 to 12 Lakhs.

 

Political Science

 

Earlier career options in this field were limited to academic fields only. However, it has changed now and scopes are much more varied where one can opt from a plethora of options in central and state government and also in private sectors. One can work as a political analyst, join the civil service, serve in the Indian Foreign service and even teach at the college or university level. Political journalism is also a smart career choice.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History is an Undergraduate course offered by numerous Indian colleges in India. While most colleges admits students on marks obtained at plus two some hold entrance tests. The course is open for students who have successfully qualified 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university with minimum 50% marks. The tuition fee for Bachelor of Arts in History varies from INR 1000 to 25000.

Law

 

Study of law is unquestionably one of the most gratifying career options considering the job challenges and financial benefits. Over the last few decades India INC has witnessed a steady rise in demand for law graduates in various professional fields. Study of law is increasingly becoming a career choice for millennials. Earlier students were offered courses in civil, criminal, corporate, taxation, labour and election law. Today the repertoire has included new specializations including space, cyber, intellectual property, and international laws. The prospect for law students is very good as they are now better armed than those 10-15 years ago.

 

Students can choose between a three-year LLB degree after graduation in any discipline or a five-year integrated BA LLB programme after plus two. Those seeking admission to the law programs have to write a test, like the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). With rising demands that are emerging with the fast-changing world, law schools of India introducing more dedicated subjects and programmes in their curricula. Programmes like Aviation law at NALSAR, Public policy at NLSIU, Entrepreneurship administration at NUJS and Labour welfare laws at Symbiosis Society’s Law College, have recently been initiated. In addition to new courses, the institutes have also started focussing on schooling law students through moot court sessions, competitive legal events, journal writing and mandatory internships.

Hotel Management and Tourism

 

Hospitality sector is a fast growing one in India and job opportunities are enormous. Degree, diploma or certificate programs in Hospitality Management are in much in demand. Bachelor of Hotel Management (B.H.M.) is a four years program and is known to be the best one among all Hospitality courses in the country.
