Columbia is comprised of three undergraduate schools: Columbia College, The Fu Foundation of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the School of General Studies. Columbia is also affiliated with Barnard College for women. The renowned Core Curriculum unites all Columbia undergraduates by providing a common fundation in literature, philosophy, science, art, history, and music. This, in a way, makes it harder for students to pursue their own unique intellectual interests. Class sizes are generally capped at 22 students for close interaction with faculty. Columbia Engineering is one of the oldest of its type in the US, developing future engineering leaders through its unique education approach which includes hands on design courses and thousands of research, internship, and job opportunities. Students can choose from over 100 majors and concentrations.
